Industrial edge AI needs a delivery path from a model to a usable factory workflow. A production team must decide where data is collected, where inference runs, how results reach an operator and who responds when the system needs attention. Hardware selection becomes more useful once those responsibilities are explicit.
On September 23, 2026, Emdoor Group, Intellifusion, Runwan Innovation and Qingcheng International OPC Community entered a four-party agreement in Hangzhou to build the FDE System Foundation. Emdoor’s announcement, published on September 24, describes an ecosystem connecting technology, products, talent, application scenarios and delivery services. It identifies edge computing and intelligent terminals as Emdoor’s contribution.
Translate ecosystem cooperation into a deployment design
For a system integrator, the practical next step is to draw the application’s data path. The following framework is a planning approach for industrial projects; it does not imply that every function is already delivered by the FDE partnership or supported by every Emdoor device.
| Layer | Project responsibility | Evidence to request |
|---|---|---|
| Data acquisition | Collect equipment signals, images or production records | Interface mapping, timestamps and sample data quality |
| Edge computing node | Run the selected inference or processing service | Model compatibility, latency, memory and thermal tests |
| Operator terminal | Present the result within an actionable workflow | Task screens, permissions and exception handling |
| Management service | Maintain versions, logs and recovery procedures | Update, rollback and support responsibilities |
Separate inference from the operator interface where useful
A fixed industrial panel PC can serve as the operator’s interface while a separate computing node processes an inference workload. This arrangement may help when the station needs a stable touchscreen interface but the AI service has different performance, cooling or upgrade requirements.
Alternatively, an application may fit a single qualified device. Compare both arrangements using the actual model, inputs and software stack. Include the communication delay between components when measuring end-to-end response. A device that displays an AI result is not necessarily the device running the model.
Define what happens when a result is uncertain
For an assisted inspection workflow, specify how the operator reviews a flagged item, corrects a result and records the final decision. Decide which information must remain available when connectivity is lost. Make the application’s uncertainty and escalation behavior visible to the person responsible for the process.
Record the model version with the relevant production event. If an update changes the output, the team needs a way to compare versions and restore an approved configuration. These records make troubleshooting possible across the hardware supplier, software developer and factory team.
Build an acceptance plan around the complete task
- Use representative production samples, including difficult and incomplete inputs.
- Agree how accuracy and unacceptable errors will be measured for the specific task.
- Test sustained operation in the intended enclosure and temperature conditions.
- Check behavior after network interruption, restart and an unsuccessful update.
- Assign ownership of data, model validation, device management and on-site service.
Keep general operator-interface workloads separate from AI acceleration requirements in the procurement brief. Specify the model format, runtime, memory footprint and response target before asking for a processor recommendation. Announced platform performance is a starting point for evaluation, not an acceptance result.
